A focus on evaluating controls and managing risk at every level.

BHP (formerly BHP Billiton Iron Ore Major Projects) approached CGR in mid 2011 with the goal of replacing internal spreadsheets with a complete system, and a wider vision for “enterprise-wide risk management”.

A complete solution: on time, on spec and on budget.

BHP Billiton’s risk management software requirements presented a challenging project for CGR. While the risk management process was well-documented and stringent across the organisation, the translation from paper to software demanded strict adherence. CGR Foundation was deployed internally as “rms2” with various customisations in place to meet BHP’s business rules:

  • Risks as both “threats” and “opportunities”.
  • Capacity to manage complex security roles, with the ability to add a user (or contractor) independently to any part of the system.
  • Alignment with internal processes including monthly reporting.

In 2012, supported by the integration of CGR Foundation, the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA) awarded “Risk Manager of the Year” to our risk champion at BHP.

BHP Billiton Iron Ore continues to manage risk using CGR Foundation, with ongoing further integration into other divisions.
